What is Ayurveda?
I first want to start by saying that Ayurveda, to me, is best defined as a lifestyle about observation and choice that optimizes how good you feel about living.
The word Ayurveda (pronounced “ahh-yur-vey-da”) is a Sanskrit word. The direct translation from Sanskrit to English is the science of life, with ayur meaning life and veda meaning science). The science of life when it pertains to Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old healing practice that has roots in India. The practice of Ayurveda takes into account the experience of the person as a whole (environment, mind, body & spirit) when it comes to healing, health and wellness.

Where did your passion for Ayurveda come from?
I like to say that I didn’t find Ayurveda, but that Ayurveda found me. Upon obtaining my yoga teacher certification in 2020, I took additional training in Auyrveda. The more I read and researched, I found that a lot of the healing practices I had done intuitively on my own in the midst of my own life turmoil fell right into line with the healing traditions of Ayurveda.
Since then I have read countless books, filled up notebooks full of life enriching tidbits, created recipes, and listened to hours of podcasts on Ayurvedic subjects. As a student of life, there will always be more to learn and that’s only more motivating to me. I honor the simplicity and expansive nature of Ayurveda as a whole.

What does an Ayurvedic lifestyle consist of?
One awesome thing about Ayurveda that I love is that you can involve Ayurvedic practices as much or as little into your life as you please. I see it as a ‘choose your own adventure’ healing approach.
The goal of Ayurveda is balance & harmony within the doshas. Doshas are the natural fundamental energies within the body, the same that are found in nature. Since we are all made up of different constitutions, there is not a one path track to success. What every person needs and what they desire to achieve will be wildly different from one person to another.
The main focuses of Ayurveda include diet, sleep, disease prevention, wellness, and herbal remedies
